In its current guise, the Detroit Grand Prix is a relative newcomer to the calendar, having first been included in 2007. After a pair of races in 07 and 08, it didn't return until 2012, but it's been on the calendar ever since.

The Detroit Grand Prix is held on the streets of Belle Isle and was also held here in the CART days in the 80s and 90s. Formula 1 also ran a Detroit GP between 1982 and 1988.

The streets of Detroit are tight by IndyCar standards, so the race is far from an easy one. The Indy NXT series will also be in action this weekend in Detroit.
