The wait for Gran Turismo 7 is nearly over. But even though the release is just over two weeks away, we still haven’t seen any GT7 PS4 gameplay. As we get closer to launch, however, new details about the PS4 version of GT7 are starting to emerge.
Gran Turismo 7 will come on two discs for PS4
If you like buying physical games, the PS4 version of GT7 will come on two Blu-ray discs according to a listing on PlayStation Direct.
Although Sony hasn’t confirmed why GT7 is shipping with two discs on PS4, it’s likely that one disc will install data onto the hard drive while the other will be used to play the game. Other large PS4 games like The Last of Us Part II and Red Dead Redemption 2 also come with Data and Play discs.
Since the PS5 uses Ultra-HD BDXL discs that can hold up to 128 GB of data, the PS5 version of GT7 only requires one disc. For comparison, dual-layer PS4 Blu-Ray discs can hold up to 50 GB of data.
GT veterans may remember that Gran Turismo 2 was sold with two discs on the original PlayStation in 1999. One disc included the arcade mode, while the other contained the GT Mode.
GT2's scale was too big to cram onto a single PlayStation CD-ROM. Fun fact: the GT Mode disc was a scratch and sniff disc. Rubbing it would create an "authentic pit stop smell."
No screenshots or gameplay footage of the PS4 version has been shown yet. If you haven’t been able to buy a PS5 yet, players who buy GT7 on PS4 can upgrade to the PS5 digital version later for £10. Player data from GT Sport such as your Driver and Sportsmanship rating will also be automatically transferred to GT7.
Gran Turismo 7 file size
Gran Turismo 7 has a minimum file size of 110 GB on PS4 and PS5, so you may want to start clearing your hard drive to create some space in time for the launch. This is nearly three times larger than GT Sport’s original file size at launch. However, GT Sport’s file size has increased to around 110 GB with updates.
