Looking for a way to ease the wait for F1 2022? Why not build your very own Lego Technic model of McLaren's Formula 1 car.
Previewing the 2022 McLaren F1 car, the first-ever Lego Technic F1 car is insanely detailed, with over 1,400 pieces to keep you busy for hours.
Over 1,400 pieces
While it features the papaya livery used on the MCL35M race cars in the 2021 F1 season, the new Lego Technic car provides “an interpretation of the new-look 2022 F1 race cars” designed to meet the new 2022 regulations. While there are obviously design limitations on a Lego model, it gives us a first look at McLaren’s new 2022 Formula 1 car before its real-life debut.
Designed in collaboration with the McLaren F1 race team, the new Lego Technic F1 car features a fully modelled V6 engine with moving pistons. From the tyres to the front wing, every component is faithfully recreated. It also has working steering, active suspension, and a differential lock.
With over 1,432 pieces, Lego’s first-ever Technic F1 car measures over five inches (13 cm) high, 25.5 inches (65 cm) long, and 10.5 inches (27 cm) wide. Available on 1 March 2022, the Lego Technic Formula 1 car retails for £159.99.
Lando Norris thinks he’s a better Lego builder than Daniel Ricciardo
McLaren driver Lando Norris loves building Lego sets. In an interview with Lego Group, the racing driver said his favourite Lego set is his McLaren Senna GTR Lego Technic car he received from the F1 team.
The young racing driver is also confident he can build a Lego set faster than his teammate, Daniel Ricciardo. “I would win!” Lando joked. “Daniel is getting a bit old now.”
