Does Gran Turismo 7 have VR?

Gran Turismo Sport is compatible with PSVR, but does Gran Turismo 7 have VR? With Sony's PSVR 2 headset arriving in February, many players are wondering if Gran Turismo 7 will support VR on PS5.

Does Gran Turismo 7 have VR?

Gran Turismo 7 is not playable in VR - at least not yet. We'll be experiencing the PS5's flagship racer in VR soon though as Sony has confirmed GT7 will be a PSVR 2 launch title.

VR support will be added to GT7 in a free update alongside the PSVR 2's launch on 22 February.

Gran Turismo 7 PSVR 2 gameplay

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s President and CEO Jim Ryan announced Gran Turismo 7's PSVR 2 update during a media conference at the CES show in Las Vegas.

“I am excited to announce that one of our most storied franchises will be coming to PSVR 2 at launch - Gran Turismo,” he said, adding that “PSVR 2 players will be able to experience the game like never before.”

During the show, Sony showed a short snippet of Gran Turismo 7 PSVR 2 gameplay. The video shows a Ferrari Vision GT racing around Road Atlanta while running on PSVR 2.

Since then, Polyphony has confirmed that all cars and tracks in GT7 will support VR. Apart from split-screen races, all races will be available in VR too - including online races. The gameplay video confirms we can race with a grid of at least 12 cars on track.

This is a welcome upgrade over Gran Turismo Sport's VR, which was limited to head-to-head races and time trials in a separate game mode. Polyphony says PSVR 2's eye-tracking and foveated rendering will enable players to “experience all cars and tracks in VR like never before.”

With a 4K resolution OLED screen, haptic feedback, and new Sense controllers offering increased interactivity, the PSVR 2 is shaping up to be an impressive piece of kit. This impressive technology has the potential to revolutionise racing games.

Racing games are a natural fit for VR, so the lack of PSVR 2 racing games at launch other than GT7 is surprising. Nevertheless, GT7 will be a great showcase of the PSVR 2’s technology.

PSVR 2 release date

Sony's PSVR 2 headset launches on 22 February for £529.99 / $549.99. For now, it can only be ordered on the PlayStation Direct store.
