Does Le Mans Ultimate have VR support? Now that the official WEC game is out in Early Access, racing gamers are wondering if it supports virtual reality headsets.
The first fully licensed WEC game in over 20 years, Le Mans Ultimate features cutting-edge graphics and a huge array of cars and tracks.
But what about VR support? We've got everything you need to know about VR in Le Mans Ultimate right here!
Does Le Mans Ultimate have VR support?
Many fans were expecting Le Mans Ultimate to support VR in Early Access. After all, it uses the same game engine as rFactor 2, which has full VR support.
Unfortunately, those hoping to race 24 Hours of Le Mans in VR will be disappointed because Le Mans Ultimate doesn't support VR in Early Access.
After a delay from its original December 2023 release date, Le Mans Ultimate launched in Early Access on 20 February. This is a smart move in our opinion, but those who want to experience the game in VR will need to wait.
But what about the full version of the game? And when will it launch?
Le Mans Ultimate Full Release
While VR support won't be in the Early Access game at launch, it could still come in the full release. With the same engine as rFactor 2, we know this is possible and there are more reasons than that too.
The whole point of Early Access is to allow players to enjoy the game while the developers work on adding new features and improving the general quality of the experience.
Speaking to RacingGames, Motorsport Games' CEO Stephen Hood confirmed that VR support "is definitely on the radar" for Le Mans Ultimate, but it "must meet the Le Mans Ultimate quality benchmark."
This confirms that Le Mans Ultimate will get VR support at some point, but it's not clear if it will be added to the early access build or if players will need to wait for the full release.
This could include future releases on systems outside of PC, including the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S.
Early Access is the best time to pick up this game too, as it'll be available for the low price of £24.99 / €29.99 / $32.99. This is less than half the price of a brand-new triple-A racing title.
This price won't last forever though, as it will steadily be increased as Le Mans Ultimate gets closer to its final version on the full release date.
Benefits of VR
So, those who haven't got a VR headset for their gaming PC might be wondering what the big deal is with this. Well, the simple answer comes down to one thing: immersion.
VR headsets allow gamers to be virtually put inside the helmet of a racing driver in the car. It's the closest you can experience to actually racing the rocketship you're piloting.
Popular VR headsets include the META Quest, Oculus Rift and Valve Index. On systems like the PS5 as well, there are first-party hardware options like the PSVR2.
While they aren't cheap, the level of immersion and realism they offer is unparalleled in gaming and they're particularly impressive for racing games.
