Drive to Survive Season 6 trailer

Drive to Survive Season 6 trailer

We’re now less than three days away from the launch of Drive to Survive Season 6, and a new trailer has been released to whet our appetite. Showing the very best of the 2023 Formula 1 season, as well as some spice off-track moments too, the trailer has definitely got us excited for what’s to come.

Let’s take a look at what’s coming in Drive to Survive Season 6!

Back with a bang

The trailer begins with Lando Norris describing the off-season for an F1 driver. This is the time when drivers can kick back, relax, and in Charles Leclerc’s case, release more awesome new music.

Lando’s voiceover is accompanied by scenes of the Twitch quartet (Norris, Leclerc, Alex Albon, and Max Verstappen) taking in some racketball, Leclerc making snow angels in the mountains, and Pierre Gasly enjoying some drinks by the sea. We also see the recently unemployed Guenther Steiner fishing at a lake, but that’s where the peacefulness ends.

The trailer then switches to a montage of crashes and celebrations, as the season returns with a bang. 2023 was full of exciting crashes out on track, with the trailer showcasing the Alpine atrocity in Australia, Carlos Sainz knocking Sergio Perez out of his home race in Mexico, and George Russell’s date with the wall in Singapore.

The trailer does a great job of building tension throughout, getting the adrenaline pumping ready for preseason testing to begin later this week. It’s not just the on-track action that’ll get people talking, however.

Hamilton hinting

We don’t always see a lot of Lewis Hamilton in recent seasons of Drive to Survive, but the trailer hints at the biggest story of the off-season. Sat in a meeting room with principal Toto Wolff, Hamilton drops the line of the trailer.

“You can be here for 20 more years, I can’t” Hamilton jokes, while a stony-faced Wolff looks on. Accompanied by clips of both Wolff and Christian Horner discussing how drivers need good cars to succeed, it’s clear what Netflix is doing with this section of the trailer.

With Hamilton confirmed as leaving Mercedes at the end of 2024, we’ll definitely be watching everything he says and does in Season 6 with interest. All we need is a ‘Welcome to Ferrari’ moment with Fred Vassuer outside the paddock at Spa and our heads will explode!

Hamilton’s Mercedes departure brings the start of silly season early in 2024, but the Drive to Survive Season 6 trailer does a great job of showing last year’s.

Ricciardo returns

We’ve all heard the story of how Daniel Ricciardo returned to racing in 2023, but we didn’t think we’d get to see it. The Season 6 trailer, however, hints that we’ll get to see behind the curtain as to how it all happened.

Christian Horner is shown on a phone call with someone called Daniel, presumably Ricciardo, offering him an idea. The trailer then cuts to Ricciardo climbing into a Red Bull, alluding to his testing session at Silverstone that won him back a racing seat.

We also see Horner in discussion with his team, reacting to Ricciardo’s lap times, meaning we will see the full story unfold that led to the sacking of Nyck de Vries. Maybe we’ll see Ricciardo replace Sergio Perez in the senior team in the future, but for now, he’ll start 2024 at the underwhelmingly named Visa Cash App RB.

Unlike the previous trailer, we don’t see any of de Vries this time around, but we still see plenty of other events instead.

Best of the rest

From Valtteri Bottas’ striking new look for 2023 to the emergence of Aston Martin in the first half of the season, the Season 6 trailer for Drive to Survive is packed full of noteworthy moments.

As you’d expect, Guenther is featured, with this being his last season in the sport, for now at least. We also see Ferrari beginning life with their new principal Vassuer, Alpine struggling under the stewardship of Otmar Szafneur, and a brief look at McLaren’s early-season stumbles.

Of course, Las Vegas is also shown, with F1 returning to Sin City after a long absence. Even Ryan Reynolds makes a cameo at the end, with the Canadian, along with friend Rob McElhenney investing in Alpine during the year.

Drive to Survive Season 6 promises to be one of the best yet. Despite the dominance of Red Bull, there’s still plenty to cover throughout 2023, and we can’t wait for the season to drop this week.

You can check out Season 6 of Drive to Survive on Netflix from 23 February, along with the first five seasons if you need a quick catchup.
