EA Sports WRC drifted onto PC and consoles in early November last year. Just two months later, Codemasters’ first official WRC game has had a significant price drop on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you didn’t pick up EA Sports WRC at launch, this is the cheapest price yet.
EA Sports WRC nearly half price on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
In a limited-time deal, EA Sports WRC is on sale on Amazon UK for only £22.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S – that’s a whopping 49% off the RRP.
It’s worth noting, however, that the discount only applies to physical copies of the game. This is an unprecedented price drop considering EA Sports WRC has only been out for two months. It’s possibly an indication of low sales.
Sales figures haven’t been released, but IGN reported that EA Sports WRC and F1 23 underperformed commercially, leading to staff layoffs at Codemasters last year.
There was a lot of excitement when Codemasters acquired the WRC license from KT Racing. The studio has a strong reputation in the rally game space after creating the acclaimed Colin McRae Rally and DIRT Rally series.
Unfortunately, graphics and performance issues tarnished EA Sports WRC’s reputation when it launched out of the service park. Coupled with rally games having a niche audience, negative feedback and bad word of mouth likely affected sales sales.
Next update coming soon
If you’re new to EA Sports WRC, the Season 2 update recently added the Central Rally Europe. New to the 2023 WRC calendar, this challenging asphalt rally features 12 fast-flowing stages set in the Czech Republic countryside.
Frustratingly, this update created new issues, with the game crashing for some players in career mode. In the meantime, Codemasters advises players not to continue a saved career until the next update is released in mid-January.
A VR update is also planned for PC this Spring, but there’s no word if EA Sports WRC will support PSVR 2 yet.
