After 12 years, Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service is getting a major revamp. Effectively Sony’s answer to Microsoft’s GamePass, new subscription plans give players access to a large library of games for a monthly or yearly subscription fee.
For the first time, classic PS1, PS2, and PS3 games are also playable on PS4 and PS5 with the Premium tier via emulation and cloud streaming.
Launching today in the UK and Europe, the new PlayStation Plus gives players access to a collection of 700 games across three membership plans: Essential, Extra, and Premium, with new titles added every month.
Costing £6.99 monthly/£19.99 quarterly/ £49.99, the Essential plan is identical to the old PlayStation Plus. This plan includes free monthly PS5 and PS4 games as well as online multiplayer access and member-only discounts.
If you play lots of racing games, the new PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers are worth considering. With the service launching today in Asia, we now have a complete list of games included.
Here’s every racing game included with PS Plus Extra and Premium. Note that all lists are incomplete and will be updated over time as Sony adds more titles each month.
PlayStation Plus Extra racing games
Price: £10.99 monthly / £31.99 quarterly / £83.99 yearly
Upgrading to the PS Plus Extra plan gives players access to a large catalogue of PS5 and PS5 titles. New games will be added to PS Plus Extra twice a month.
For racing game fans, some of the highlights include Assetto Corsa Competizione, Destruction AllStars, WRC 10, and Wreckfest.
The following racing games are included in PS Plus Extra:
Game | Platform |
---|---|
Assetto Corsa Competizione | PS4, PS5 |
Car Mechanic Simulator | PS4 |
Carmageddon: Max Damage | PS4 |
Danger Zone | PS4 |

PlayStation Plus Premium racing games
Price: £13.49 monthly / £39.99 quarterly / £99.99 yearly
In addition to the PS4 and PS5 games catalogue, the PS Plus Premium tier includes a catalogue of classic PS1, PS2, and PS3 titles. It’s worth noting that PS3 games can’t be downloaded and can only be streamed via the cloud.
Select PS1 and PSP games are enhanced for the modern consoles with save states, rewind functionality, improved performance, and higher resolutions. Trophy support is also included in select PS1, PS2, and PSP games.
The only downside is that some PS1 games are based on the sluggish 50hz PAL versions instead of the smoother 60hz NTSC ones. However, Sony has confirmed that PlayStation Plus Premium will get NTSC 60hz options in the future.
Only a handful of classic racing games are available at launch, with highlights including Jak X Combat Racing MotorStorm Apocalypse, and Split/Second Velocity.
Ridge Racer 2 on PSP was previously leaked but is currently only available on the Asia store. Disappointingly, there are no classic Gran Turismo games or no PS1 racers currently available. From Destruction Derby to Gran Turismo 2, we’re hoping to see more retro racing games added to PS Plus Premium over time.
The following racing games are included in PS Plus Premium:
PlayStation Plus Premium Time-Limited Trials
Time-limited game trials are also included in PS Plus Premium subscriptions. These trials allow you to download and play full games for up to two hours. Trophies unlocked during the trial will be transferred to the full game if you purchase it.
