Gran Turismo 7 May update

As we approach the end of the month, the Gran Turismo 7 May update is just around the corner. Polyphony has consistently delivered monthly updates since GT7 launched back in March last year, adding new cars, tracks and races.

Last week, Kazunori Yamauchi dropped a teaser for the cars coming in GT7’s next monthly content update. Now, a PlayStation blog post has confirmed their identities and revealed what else we can expect in the Gran Turismo 7 May 2023 update.

Gran Turismo 7 May 2023 update adding three new cars

Thanks to Yamauchi's traditional Twitter tease, we already knew that three cars are coming to GT7 in this week's content update. And now Polyphony has revealed their identities via PlayStation Blog.

GT7's May update car roster will be an eclectic assortment, including a 1960s classic coupe and a 1000-horsepower monster.

As fans were speculating, one of the Gran Turismo 7 May update cars is the gorgeous 1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT Veloce, returning to Gran Turismo for the first time since Gran Turismo 6.

There's also the 1990 Nissan GT-R NISMO (R32) (do we really need any more Nissan Skylines in Gran Turismo?), but the clear standout is the 1,000-hp Greening Auto Company Maverick.

Created by Greening Auto Company’s Jimmy Shaw, this custom-built Ford won the Gran Turismo Award at the SEMA show back in 2018, but has yet to appear in a Gran Turismo game. That will soon change this week.

The Greening Auto Company Maverick will likely be available in Brand Central, while the classic Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT Veloce will almost certainly fetch several million credits at the Legends Car Dealership. We expect the Nissan GT-R NISMO will be on rotation in the Used Car Dealership.

New tuning options

In addition to the three new cars, the Gran Turismo 7 May 2023 update is also bringing some surprise new tuning options.

These include the ability to finally buy engine swaps in the GT Auto Shop. Available at Collector Level 50 for select vehicles, this allows players to buy and equip new engines from different cars.

GT7's engine swaps were previously limited to random roulette ticket prizes, so this is a very welcome and long-requested addition.

Additionally, a new Ultimate category will add more tuning options and rare parts for players at Collector Level 50 or above.

That's not all, as the update is also adding two extra GT Cafe Menu Books and two Scapes photo locations: National Stadium and The Lake District.

Gran Turismo 7 May update release date

GT7’s May update (update 1.34) is launching on Thursday, 25 May.

The last few updates have included four or five new cars, but May’s update only has three cars. Sadly, this update won't add any extra tracks or layouts.

Excluding new layouts for existing circuits, Grand Valley was the last new track added to GT7 back in February, so we’re certainly overdue some new circuits.

There could be some other surprises in store though such as handling improvements. We'll find out more when the Gran Turismo 7 update 1.34 patch notes arrive on 25 May.

In the meantime, be sure to check out this week’s GT7 Daily Races.
