The wait for Gran Turismo 7 is finally over. It’s arrived at the perfect time too as this year marks the series’ 25th anniversary. Gran Turismo is one of the most popular racing game franchises ever, and GT7 will attract legions of new fans.
If you’re new to the series, entering the world of GT7 can be daunting. Thankfully, GT7 has a plethora of difficulty settings and driving assists to help beginners get to grips. One of the best assists to use when you’re starting out is automatic gears. With that in mind, here’s how to change to automatic in Gran Turismo 7.
How to change to automatic in Gran Turismo 7
GT7 caters for players of all skill levels, allowing you to switch between automatic and manual transmissions. Before starting a race or time trial event in GT7, use the d-pad or left analogue stick to scroll over to the Settings menu. Press Cross to bring up the Settings menu and navigate to Assist Settings. Select Assist Settings by pressing Cross.
In Assist Settings, Gears is the first option. Press Cross and then choose either Automatic or Manual. Once you’ve selected your transmission setting, press Circle to return to the race menu and select Start to enter the event. You can also adjust other assists such as traction control, ABS, and stability control in this menu.
If you want to change the transmission to automatic after a race has started, pause the game by pressing Start. Then select Options > Assist Settings > Gears > Automatic.
Automatic or manual gears?
If you are new to Gran Turismo or inexperienced with realistic racing games, we recommend using automatic gears. This means you can focus on driving and hone your skills without worrying about changing gears.
As you gain more experience, try changing to manual gears. This will give you more precise control of the car and help improve your lap times.
