This week sees the launch of The Real Race 2024. Featuring a collaboration between Lamborghini and MOZA, The Real Race Super Trofeo 2024 offers young sim drivers the opportunity to move into real-world motorsport via the Automobili Lamborghini Young Driver Program.
Young talent
The journey from sim racing to real-life racing is becoming a road traveled more and more often. Despite many believing sim racing does not prepare you for the real thing, many have proved that is not the case.
From Cem Bolukbasi graduating from F1 Esports to a drive in Formula 2, to Jimmy Broadbent going from a shed to victory at the Nurburgring, there are plenty of examples of sim racers going on to have successful racing careers.
The most famous example is arguably Jann Mardenborough. The British driver started out playing the Gran Turismo series in his bedroom, before being given his chance in the GT Academy. Winning saw him move into real-world racing, with his story serving as the inspiration for the Gran Turismo movie that was released last year.
So the path from sim racing to a real drive does exist, but even today some struggle to make the leap. Three-time F1 world champion Max Verstappen has started his campaign to get sim racers into real cars, and now Lamborghini is carving a route for young drivers with The Real Race 2024.
Registrations open for The Real Race Super Trofeo 2024
In partnership with MOZA, Lamborghini has this week (April 22) announced that registrations are now open for The Real Race Super Trofeo 2024. This is Lamborghiniās flagship esports series, with young drivers from all around the world invited to take part.
The Real Race 2024 is designed to help scout out the best new and young racing talent, before offering them a route into real-world racing. The best drivers from the series can join the esteemed Automobili Lamborghini Young Driver Program.
2024 marks the fifth season of the Super Trofeo Esports, and the first sponsored by MOZA. As part of the partnership, MOZA is supplying all participating drivers with sim hardware, ensuring a level playing field while also providing the best tools for the job.
The series will be held on Assetto Corsa Competizione and will focus on three regions around the world. The European series begins with a four-round online series, while the North American and Asia-Pacific regions will navigate through hot stint qualifications to reach the Regional Final.
The top 24 drivers from the latter will then get the chance to showcase their skills, with the most talented from here and the European series advancing to the on-site finals at Jerez de la Frontera. This will be a LAN event using top-of-the-line MOZA hardware held during the Lamborghini World Finals.
All drivers who make it to the on-site finals will have the chance to join the Lamborghini Esports Team, as well as join the Young Driver Program for the 2025 season.
