Need for Speed Unbound

After a three-year wait Need for Speed is back on multiple different platforms. Launching later this year, Need for Speed Unbound takes the series in a surprising new direction.

Back in the capable hands of Criterion Games, the official reveal trailer gave us a first proper look at the game’s unique art style, combining photorealistic cars with cel-shaded characters and flashy cartoon effects.

But what are the Need for Speed Unbound platforms and is it coming to PS4 and Xbox One?

Need for Speed Unbound platforms

EA and Criterion Games have confirmed Need for Speed Unbound is releasing on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

It isn’t coming to PS4 and Xbox One, so if you’re a NFS fan and a console gamer, it might be time to upgrade to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S now that the new consoles are more readily available.

Is Need for Speed Unbound current-gen only?

Months before the reveal, rumours claimed that Need for Speed Unbound is a current-gen-only game. Well, we can now confirm these rumours are true: NFS Unbound is skipping PS4 and Xbox One.

This is disappointing news for PS4 and Xbox One owners, but it means Criterion can maximise the game’s potential on the current-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

As a result, Need for Speed Unbound will run at 4K resolution and 60fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S – an impressive feat considering the game is set in a large open-world map called Lakeshore, inspired by Chicago.
