A datamine leak suggests drag racing will be the focus of a new Forza Horizon 5 update.
Forza Horizon 5 drag racing update leaks
Files hidden in the recent Japanese Automotive update uncovered by GTPlanet’s TGR55 seemingly confirm that Forza Horizon 5 is getting a drag racing-themed update with new cars, a new Horizon Story, and extra drag strips.
Playground Games hasn’t verified the update yet, but TGR55 is known to be a reliable leaker having also leaked the Battle Royale-style Eliminator update last year.
With drag strips littered around the map, drag racing is already possible in Forza Horizon. However, the update will reportedly add some much-needed depth to drag racing in Forza Horizon 5, with the ability to manually launch cars using drag lights and launch control.
You’ll need to pull up to the start line, hold a burnout for three seconds, and wait for the lights to go green before launching off the line.
Additionally, the files mention three new drag strip locations coming to Forza Horizon 5 along with three new drag racing-focused cars.
These include the electric Rimac Nevera, the production version of the Rimac C_Two concept already featured in Forza Horizon 5. With a 0-60 mph time of 1.9 seconds, the Rimac Nevera’s neck-snapping acceleration will leave competitors in the dust on the drag strip.
Other new cars found in the Forza Horizon 5 drag racing update include the Lamborghini Huracan STO and Chevrolet Camaro Pro Stock, Forza Horizon 5’s first dedicated drag racer.
New Horizon Story
Contextualising these new cars and locations will be a new Horizon Story according to the leak. Dialogue snippets discovered in the datamine suggest you’ll be teaming up with Alejandra to work on Papa Fernando’s 1968 Dodge Dart HEMI Super Stock.
The story will see you race drag cars from different eras, starting from the 1930s up to the present day.
It’s not clear yet when the Forza Horizon 5 drag racing update will arrive, but it probably won’t be part of the next expansion.
Playground Games has already confirmed Series 18 Horizon Wilds Takeover coming in March will be dedicated to Ken Block and bring back the Stadium Stunt Park. With that in mind, the Forza Horizon 5 drag racing update probably won’t arrive until April at the earliest.
