Where is the Gran Turismo 7 December 2023 Update?

With Christmas fast approaching, there's one question on the minds of Gran Turismo 7 players: will there be a December update? After last month's mammoth Spec II update, fans are wondering if Polyphony will release the next GT7 update (update 1.42) in December or save it for January 2024.

Here’s what we know so far about Gran Turismo 7 update 1.42.

Will there be a Gran Turismo 7 December update?

Gran Turismo 7 players are used to getting monthly updates. At the minimum, these updates usually add new cars, GT Cafe Menus, and Scape locations. Last month’s Spec II update was more substantial than usual, bringing a host of quality-of-life improvements along with the new Lake Louise snow track. After Spec II made so many changes, we expect the next update to be smaller.

At the time of writing, Polyphony Digital hasn’t confirmed if Gran Turismo 7 will get another update in December. Looking back at last year, GT7 received a Christmas update on 15 December 2022.

This update added five cars to the roster including the Ferrari Vision GT, Bugatti Chiron, Toyota Celica GT-Four rally car, and Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C8. As well as new cars, the update brought three new World Circuits events and two extra GT Café Menus. Given Spec II's massive size, update 1.42 will likely be a scale similar to last year’s Christmas update.

Gran Turismo 7 update 1.42 release date

Polyphony hasn’t confirmed a release date for Gran Turismo 7 update 1.42 yet. Since GT7 updates come out on Thursdays, we expected update 1.42 to arrive on Thursday 14 December or Thursday 21 December at the latest.

But with no car silhouette teaser from Kazunori Yamauchi last weekend, a GT7 is unlikely to get a December update.

It would make sense for Polyphony to release a new update with new cars and events this month to keep fans playing GT7 over Christmas. However, during the World Series Finals Polyphony confirmed that players must wait until January 2024 to drive the gorgeous Genesis Vision GT concept.

With Polyphony staying silent, it looks like GT7 update 1.42 will arrive sometime in January 2024. GT7 players can claim free gifts from 15 December to 7 January by visiting the World Map, which means update 1.42 will likely arrive on 11 January 2024 at the earliest.

It’s not unusual for Polyphony to skip a monthly update. GT7 didn’t get a monthly update in October this year, but the massive Spec II update made up for it.
