How to shift gears in Gran Turismo Sport

One of the major steps for improving your driving is to make the move from automatic to manual gears.

As such, it is important that players who are looking to make this jump know how to change gears.

So, here's how to shift gears in Gran Turismo Sport!

Setting up manual on GT Sport

In order to be able to use manual gears in the first place you'll have to turn off automatic transmission.

This is simple enough, and is done from the assists menu in the settings of the game.

Be warned, your game will automatically switch to manual, so make sure you're ready for the switch. For example, definitely don't do it mid-race!

How to change gears

Interestingly, for GT Sport, you can use controller for manual and map the button to whatever you wish. This is after the 'control styles' popup after you first start either arcade or sport mode.

You can map the buttons to whichever part of the controller you think suits your playstyle. Likewise, if you're playing on a wheel, you can use your paddles or a shifter to change gear.

If you want to us 'x' to shift down and 'square' to shift up, then you can do so! Just be sure to get some practice laps in so you're ready to get playing.

Gran Turismo 7

The arrival of Gran Turismo 7 is still on the horizon, although it was recently announced that the release of the game will be delayed until 2022.
