Farming Simulator 22 Chickens: Complete guide, breeding, harvesting & more

Farming Simulator 22 is finally here! We're having a lot of fun with this one, from buying, selling and customising equipment, to harvesting crops, there's plenty to get on with. There's much more than crops to plant though, as you can also make use of livestock in the game.

One of the animals is chickens, which are a great source of eggs. How do you get chickens in your farm though, and what is the best way to look after them? We've got everything you need to know right here in our chicken guide.

With Farming Simulator 25 fast approaching, it's time for one last trip to the hen house.

Penned in

It should be obvious, but the first thing that you'll need to do to ensure your chickens thrive is install a pen for them to live in. In the store - which you can access by pressing P, if you're on PC - scroll down to the three lines at the bottom. Then, go to animals > chickens and select the pen you want to buy. Go small to start with before scaling up over time.

Then, you get the chickens to live in there. Go to the animal dealer in the shop and choose the pen you want to get chickens in. To get chickens that will reproduce straight away, you need to splash the cash and opt for the chickens which cost $50 each.

When you first buy your chickens, their stats such as health and reproduction will be all the way down at 0%. Don't worry though, that's natural. These stats will increase over time, so long as you look after your livestock properly.

A big part of ensuring the chickens are healthy is making sure they're properly fed. Keep in mind that Wheat, Balrey and Sorghum are the chickens' food of choice. Buying food is easy, as you can order it from the store by the pallet. Transport the food using a trailer and offload the food into the chickens' pens.

Eggs, eggs, eggs

After some waiting, the chickens will start to lay eggs. Having some roosters around will speed this process up, but it generally happens quite quickly anyway. The eggs will start to pop up next to the chickens' pen.

There are a few different options when it comes to the eggs once you've collected them. The easiest and quickest way to move them on is to sell them through through the "Sell" section in the menu. Something else you can do is combine the eggs with flour, butter, sugar and strawberries to make cake in the bakery and sell it on that way.

That's all there is to know about chickens in Farming Simulator 22. Happy harvesting, famers!
