There is one great motorsport series without an official game, but that is finally coming to an end with IndyCar 23!
An official video game for the American open-wheel series is set for release by Motorsport Games this year.

IndyCar 23
This game has been a long time in the making. We've been saying for years now that we need a new IndyCar game and it's thankfully almost here.
The most recent out-and-out IndyCar game was released in 2004, almost 20 years ago! But that changes this year.
We can expect IndyCar 23 to have the full calendar, teams and drivers from the 2023 season.
Motorsport Games' other games include NASCAR Heat 5 and 21 Ignition as well as rFactor 2, which they acquired from Studio 397.
IndyCar 23 release date
We don't have a more specific release date than 2023 right now.
We're hoping it will launch in the middle of the IndyCar season though, in the summer. It could be later on though, as the campaign continues to mid-September.
Any later than that would be a big disappointment. But with F1 23 slated for release in the summer it could be tough to find an open window in the racing calendar for IndyCar 23.
Platforms
When this title was officially announced back in 2021, Motorsport Games stated that the IndyCar game would be released on Xbox, PlayStation and PC.
However, the developers didn't say which Xbox and PlayStation consoles. It's safe to assume that the Series X | S and PS5 will get IndyCar 23, but what about old-gen?
Well, this isn't clear, as although most games are released on the previous generation of consoles, we don't know if that will be the case for IndyCar 23. It's something we'll find out closer to the game's release date.
We're willing to bet that this game will be released on PS4 and Xbox One though, as it's the first in a new series and these consoles have much larger player bases than their next-gen counterparts.
Drivers and Teams
IndyCar is a spec chassis series, meaning that all of the cars are equal in terms of performance. The only differences are the engines (which are also technically equal) and the drivers.
There are a total of 27 full-time drivers for 2023, with almost all of them now confirmed.
Some of the highlights include reigning world champion Will Power, and six-time champion Scott Dixon, both from New Zealand. F1 hopefuls Pato O'Ward, Alex Palou and Colton Herta are some of the most exciting young drivers on show.
Former Formula 1 drivers Marcus Ericsson, Romain Grosjean and Alexander Rossi also make up the grid.
Calendar
IndyCar has a mix of road courses and ovals in its roster. There's no series that has this great a differentiation between all of its circuits. All of the tracks are located in North America, with all but one in the United States.
There are 17 races on the 2023 calendar, four at ovals and the rest taking place on road courses.
Highlights include the street races around St Petersburg and Long Beach, the double-header in Iowa and of course, the world-famous Indy 500 in May.
