Gran Turismo 7 update 1.08 patch notes: GT7 back online after over 30 hours of downtime

It’s been a rough ride for GT7 players over the last 24 hours or so.

Yesterday’s update 1.07 sparked outrage when it reduced credit rewards, making it harder to earn credits and buy cars and upgrades without resorting to microtransactions. Then, after a critical issue extended the server maintenance, GT7 went offline for over 24 hours. Because the game requires an online connection even for single-player content, GT7 has been virtually unplayable, leaving fans understandably frustrated.

Mercifully, a new patch has been deployed that finally fixes the issue with update 1.07. After being offline for nearly 33 hours, the update brings the servers back online so we can all go racing in GT7 again.

We’ve got all the details about the Gran Turismo 7 update 1.08 patch notes right here.

Gran Turismo 7 back online after being unplayable for over 24 hours

In a statement posted on the official Gran Turismo website, Kazunori Yamauchi explained that an issue with update 1.07 was discovered where the game would not start properly for some players. This issue was not discovered during testing, but the lack of communication over the last 24 hours hasn't helped the situation.

Kazunori went on to say that update 1.07 was delayed to “prioritise the safety of the save data of the users.” Update 1.08 was then deployed as a “correctional update.”

As a result, any changes introduced in update 1.07 are still present. Yes, that includes the controversial changes made to the game’s economy. Players have been repeating events with big payouts to earn credits faster. With the latest update, this is much harder as the payouts are significantly less than before.

Kazunori addresses these changes in the statement. “I want to make GT7 a game in which you can enjoy a variety of cars lots of different ways,” he wrote. He adds that the changes are designed to “avoid a situation where a player must mechanically keep replaying certain events over and over again.”

Future updates adding new content, race events, and additional features that will “constructively resolve this.”

Kazunori concluded that he can’t share any more details and wants everyone to “watch over the growth of Gran Turismo 7 from a somewhat longer term point of view.”
