GT2 cars coming to Assetto Corsa Competizione in 2023

Since it launched in 2019, Assetto Corsa Competizione has focused on GT3 and GT4 race cars as the official game of the 2018 and 2019 Blancpain GT Series season Sprint and Endurance Cups. Next year, GT2 cars will join ACC’s car roster.

Plans to add GT2 cars to ACC were accidentally revealed during the 2022 SRO Motorsports Annual Press Conference at the 24 Hours of Spa.

GT2 cars confirmed for Assetto Corsa Competizione

During the conference, SRO Motorsports Group Founder and CEO Stephane Ratel let it slip that the long-requested GT2 race class is coming to ACC. “I’m very happy because I heard… now you are going to do the GT2 so I will be able to train in the sim,” he said while praising the ACC simulation platform.

The Maserati MC20 GT2 influenced the decision to bring GT2 cars to Assetto Corsa Competizione.

Later in the presentation, Kunos Simulazioni co-founder Marco Massaruto responded to Ratel’s unscripted quip, saying: “The decision to produce the GT2 pack actually has been taken yesterday, so it was not a story to be told today… but we are friends so we won’t pay any royalty on that and we are still friends!”

Current cars in the GT2 class are the Audi R8 LMS GT2, Brabham BT63 GT2, KTM X-BOW GT2, Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo GT2, and Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport.

The Mercedes AMG GT Track Series is also an invitational class, while the Maserati MC20 GT2 will debut next season. In fact, It was the recent reveal of the Maserati MC20 GT2 that influenced the decision to bring GT2 cars to ACC. Chances are all seven GT2 cars will be added to ACC in a DLC pack with the official liveries and drivers.

The final Assetto Corsa Competizione DLC pack?

Massaruto added that the GT2 DLC pack might be the last “to say goodbye.” This isn’t surprising, as Assetto Corsa 2 is confirmed to be in development and expected to arrive in 2024. There’s no specific release date yet, but the GT2 DLC pack will arrive in 2023.

As well as confirming the GT2 DLC pack, Massaruto also announced that ACC will be getting 2023 GT World Challenge season content, with new liveries and three new cars: the Ferrari 296 GT3, Porsche 911 GT3 R 992, and Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2.

The Ferrari 296 GT3 and Porsche 911 GT3 R 992 were unveiled last week, with the Ferrari 296 GT3 making its world debut at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.

According to Massaruto, the 2023 GTWC cars will arrive in ACC by late spring, just in time for the opening race in Monza next year. With ample new content on the horizon, there’s plenty of life left in ACC yet before Assetto Corsa 2 arrives in 2024.
