If you miss old-school arcade racers, New Star GP is a new retro-style racer featuring fast checkpoint-based racing and striking visuals.
Developed by New Star Games, a BAFTA award-winning studio behind indie sports titles New Star Soccer, Retro Goal and Retro Bowl, New Star GP is racing onto Steam Early Access soon, giving players a chance to experience this new retro racer for the first time.
Retro Racer New Star GP Steam Early Access release date revealed
New Star Games has announced that New Star Games is heading to Steam Early Access on 8 August.
Uniquely, the initial Early Access version features races set in both the 80’s and the 90’s. There are 56 individual race events to tackle set in iconic venues like Brisbane, Quebec and Cote D’Azur. New Star plans to release future updates adding different decades with new cars, locations, tracks and rivals into the career mode.
There’s also a Championship Mode with different championships playable in single-player or with up to three friends in local split-screen. The cars seem to be inspired by vintage Formula 1 racers, while the tracks appear to be varied and well-designed with challenging elevation changes.
Console release confirmed
While New Star GP is initially only getting a Steam Early Access release, New Star GP confirmed plans for a console release later this year on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
Dubbed the “biggest and most ambitious game that New Star Games has ever worked on,” New Star GP features stunning flat-shaded 3D visuals inspired by Virtua Racing.
In Career Mode, you’ll start in the ‘80s and work your way up through decades of racing while upgrading your car. You can also chase high scores in Championship Mode or in split-screen with up to three friends.
