SnowRunner getting free next-gen update for PS5 & Xbox Series X|S in May

SnowRunner is one of the most realistic challenging off-road driving simulations. A sequel to MudRunner, SnowRunner was originally released on PC in 2020 before being ported to PS4 Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch last year.

Fans have been waiting a long time for SnowRunner to get a next-gen update on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Now, Saber Interactive has announced a release date for the long-awaited SnowRunner next-gen update.

SnowRunner next-gen update release date

In a community update, Saber Interactive confirmed that the SnowRunner next-gen update will release on 31 May, 2022 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. That’s later than we hoped, but it will be worth the wait.

As expected, the upgrade will add 4K and 60fps support. With a higher resolution and smoother performance, the update will bring SnowRunner up to modern standards on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Best of all, the SnowRunner next-gen upgrade will be free if you already own the PS4 or Xbox One version.

Ahead of the launch, Saber Interactive has released a new trailer confirming the SnowRunner next-gen update release date. For the first time, we can see the truck simulator running on next-gen consoles with increased fidelity and improved performance.

The PS5 version will also benefit from DualSense support, with haptic feedback allowing you to feel the terrain.

Crossplay with other platforms will also be available at launch, including Nintendo Switch.

Season 7: Compete & Conquer coming soon

Saber Interactive also revealed the first details about SnowRunner Season 7: Compete & Conquer. Set in Tennessee, USA, Season 7 is all about racing. No, we didn't expect SnowRunner to have racing events either.

There will be time trial challenges for solo players or you can race against your friends in multiplayer. The new location also features a dirt circuit and a large river to conquer.

Season 7 adds two new vehicles: a light scout car and a custom racing truck. Sadly, no screenshots or gameplay footage has been released showing these new vehicles in action.

However, a teaser image showcases one of the new vehicle's low ride hide and chunky off-road tyres.

Navigating harsh terrain in SnowRunner is normally a lonely experience, so competitive racing is a welcome addition.

Season 7 will be released in spring 2022 but there’s no specific date. However, a new update with Season 7 content will be live on the Public Test Server “soon.”
