EA Sports WRC Seemingly Won’t Get a Sequel

When EA Sports WRC was announced last year after EA and Codemasters acquired the official license, it wasn’t clear if it was intended to be an annual franchise like F1 or a platform that would continually evolve.

The lack of a year number in the title suggested the former. But now, we seemingly have the answer.

EA Sports WRC Roadmap Reveals 2024 Expansion and DLC plans

Alongside new Season 6 content, EA has unveiled a roadmap confirming that EA Sports WRC will get several DLC packs between July 2024 and Spring 2025.

The next DLC will be the Season 6 Rally Pass. Out on July 30, Season 6 brings a new Rally Pass with a host of new rewards. In response to feedback, players can now unlock liveries for cars outside of the WRC Rally 1 Class for the livery editor and rewards will also be grouped.

This will allow players to customize their driver with a complete set of cosmetics. In previous seasons, cosmetic rewards were unlocked across multiple levels. As with previous seasons, Season 6 also adds a new set of Moments challenges based on scenarios from the real WRC.

WRC 2024 Season Expansion and DLC packs addition

After Season 6, a 2024 Season Expansion will arrive in October, bringing EA Sports WRC up to date with locations, stages, cars, and liveries from the WRC season. This will be a standalone paid expansion, but pricing details are not confirmed yet.

Players who purchase the 2024 Season Expansion will also receive two additional DLC packs featuring new cars, more rally stages for existing locations, and Moments. The first is set to arrive this Winter, with the second coming next year in Spring 2025. Both packs will be sold individually or included with the 2024 Season Expansion at no extra cost.

Finally, a new “2024 Season Edition” of EA Sports WRC will be released in October. It will contain the base game, the 2024 Season Expansion, and two DLC packs for new players who missed out last year.

While it’s a relief to know that support will continue into next year, this seemingly rules out the possibility of EA Sports WRC getting a full sequel, with EA using the base game as a platform for future DLC and expansions instead. This is the polar opposite approach to the F1 series, which continues to receive annual sequels—arguably with diminishing returns and incremental updates that don’t always justify a full sequel.
