Now that we’re over halfway through the 2023 season, EA has released an F1 23 driver ratings update for September, reflecting the Dutch and Italian Grand Prixs.
With Max Verstappen enjoying a record-setting ten consecutive race wins, Red Bull has a lot to celebrate this season. It’s a different story for Lewis Hamilton, whose driver ratings have dropped dramatically.
Let’s look at September’s F1 23 driver ratings update to find out who else is up and down.
Hard times for Hamilton
As a reminder, the F1 23 driver ratings are based on several factors: Racecraft, Experience, Pace, and Awareness. These factors determine the overall rating.
With Red Bull continuing to dominate the season, Max Verstappen is still on top with an overall 96 rating after winning ten races in a row, breaking the previous record set by Sebastien Vettel in 2013.
Elsewhere, Oscar Piastri has shown remarkable consistency, with the young rookie’s Pace up five, Racecraft up one, and Experience up two. As a result, his his overall rating increases to 82.
Conversely, 2023 has been a season Lewis Hamilton would rather forget. A collision with Piastri resulting in a penalty sees Hamilton get the largest stat drop in the latest driver ratings update, with his Awareness dropping five points.
Despite his experience increasing to 98, the British driver’s Overall rating has dropped by one to 92. This puts him in third behind Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen.
Elsewhere, Carlos Sainz’s pace and overall ratings increase by one point, though this doesn’t reflect his sensational victory at Singapore last weekend. An overall 92 rating puts Sainz ahead of his teammate Charles Leclerc. Now driving for AlphaTauri, Daniel Ricciardo also joins the driver ratings after being reintroduced to F1 23 last month.

F1 23 update 1.12 patch notes
Coinciding with the driver ratings refresh is a new patch update. Update 1.12 reverts Ferrari back to their standard 2023 season livery along with fixes for safety car deployment and F1 World.
While it fixes these issues, the update has created new issues for equal performance and control settings, causing headaches for F1 23 players.
