SCS Software continues to support Euro Truck Simulator 2 with impressive consistency. The developer has officially released update 1.57, a substantial patch that touches almost every aspect of the simulation and lays the groundwork for the newly released Nordic Horizons expansion.
From a major engine overhaul for Scania trucks to a complete visual refresh of the original Scandinavia region, there is plenty here for both new drivers and veterans. The update is free for all existing owners. Here is the play-by-play of everything included in version 1.57.
Scania R & S Series Overhaul

The most significant vehicle update in this patch focuses on the Scania R & S series. SCS has updated these models to reflect the latest real-world configurations, specifically centering on the new "SUPER" powertrain.
Players now have access to the SUPER engine range, featuring inline-6 options producing 420, 460, 500, and 560 horsepower. These are paired with the new Opticruise G25 and G33 transmissions.
For heavy haulers, the update includes Scania’s latest V8 lineup. You can now equip the 590, 660, and the massive 770-horsepower engines, along with the heavy-duty G38 transmission.
The interior received equal attention with the introduction of the Smart Dash and Smart Dash Advanced. These digital dashboards modernize the cabin significantly and are available in Dark, Light, and V8-specific variants.
On the exterior, players can add SUPER badges, grille emblems, and new sensor-equipped front fenders. SCS also expanded fuel tank options for various chassis configurations (4x2, 6x2, etc.) to better match real-life specifications.
Scandinavia Map Refresh

With the Nordic Horizons DLC now available, the development team has revisited the original Scandinavia DLC to bring it up to modern quality standards. This isn't just a texture pack; it involves significant structural changes to the road network to ensure a seamless transition between the older map and the new northern expansion.
The update introduces a complete refresh of textures, vegetation, and road assets throughout the region.
Key map changes include:
- Copenhagen Rebuilt: The Danish capital has been reconstructed with modern infrastructure and landmarks.
- New Cities: The update adds Aarhus (Denmark) and Karlstad (Sweden) to the map.
- Road Network: Junctions around Denmark’s motorways and Sweden’s E-corridors have been replaced with custom-designed assets that mirror real-world layouts.
Dynamic Cargo Loading

A feature previously exclusive to American Truck Simulator has arrived in Europe. Update 1.57 introduces Dynamic Cargo Loading and Unloading for logger trailers.
When hauling Logs, Large Tubes, or Iron Pipes, players will no longer experience a fade-to-black screen upon arrival. Instead, you drive into a designated zone where animated material handlers or crawler excavators physically load the cargo onto your trailer.
This feature is available at selected sawmills, construction sites, and steelworks across the base map. Crucially, it is a core feature for the timber harvest depots found within the new Nordic Horizons expansion areas.
Special Transport DLC Update

Owners of the Special Transport DLC receive two new high-difficulty cargoes in this update. These jobs include new routes specifically designed for the Nordic Horizons map.
- Wind Turbine Blade: This is a test of length and cornering precision. The blade is 30 meters long and rides on a specialized trailer with four steerable axles. While the blade itself weighs 5.5 tons, the trailer adds substantial weight and length.
- Underground Loader: This cargo tests raw power. The loader weighs 54.5 tons, and the total rig weight hits 72 tons. It sits on a 6-axle low loader designed for heavy mining machinery.
Krone Trailer Pack & Suspension Updates

The Krone Trailer Pack DLC gets a functional update with the addition of "City" variants for the Profi Liner, Cool Liner, and Dry Liner. These trailers feature steerable rear axles, drastically improving maneuverability in tight urban depots.
Additionally, a universal feature added in 1.57 is Adjustable Trailer Suspension Height. Similar to the existing truck suspension controls, players can now bind keys to raise or lower the trailer chassis. This is particularly useful for coupling on uneven terrain or clearing high curbs without damaging the landing gear.
Visuals and User Interface

SCS has implemented High Dynamic Range (HDR) support. Players with compatible monitors will notice improved contrast and color depth. The update includes a new calibration tool in the settings menu to fine-tune brightness and HDR intensity.
The profile creation screen has also been modernized. The preset player company logos - unchanged since 2016 - have been redesigned with a cleaner, vector-style look. To complement this, the matching company paint jobs now support a full RGB color picker, allowing you to choose any custom color for your fleet rather than relying on presets.
Verdict
Update 1.57 is a robust patch that balances content with technical improvements. The Scania update alone makes it worth a download for truck enthusiasts, while the map refresh ensures the drive north into the new Nordic Horizons territory feels consistent and high-quality.
The update is live now on Steam.
