Assetto Corsa is one of the most popular track racing series currently available. Its combination of stunning tracks, incredible cars, and realistic driving physics has put Assetto Corsa at the top of most sim racers’ wish lists.
Assetto Corsa is getting long in the tooth now, however, with the game first debuting on PC in early access over ten years ago. Even Assetto Corsa’s spin-off, Assetto Corsa Competizione, is turning six this year, so a new Assetto Corsa title is overdue.
Developer Kunos Simulazioni has promised a new entry in the series. Assetto Corsa Evo is currently in development, but there is a small question starting to develop among fans of the series: where is Assetto Corsa Evo?
Following success
Assetto Corsa stands as one of the best racing simulations ever created. Focusing on quality over quantity, the game took a handful of tracks and cars to create arguably the most realistic racing experience on the market.
Since its full release in December 2014, the game has cultivated an incredibly active modding community. New cars and tracks have been added through this community, along with a wide range of environments and game improvements that would otherwise not be included in the game.
Thanks to the modding community, players can compete on the track in their favorite performance car, or go for a leisurely drive along a coastal trail in a stunning GT car.
This was on top of the official DLC and updates released by Kunos Simulazioni. Combined, this made Assetto Corsa an incredible driving title for automotive fans.
For those looking for the GT2, GT3, or GT4 racing experience, 2018’s Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC) was designed to highlight those specific racing classes. This was a spin-off from the main series, narrowing the range of cars and tracks.
Even as ACC has continued to grow, fans are still demanding a successor to the original Assetto Corsa. That sequel has now been confirmed, with Assetto Corsa Evo set to build upon the foundations laid by the original Assetto Corsa.
Fans have been drip-fed information, but Kunos is keeping plenty of details under wraps. Along with a release date, very little information has been released about Assetto Corsa Evo. So what is happening with Assetto Corsa Evo?
Missing on track
Originally referred to as Assetto Corsa 2, the official title of Assetto Corsa Evo was unveiled back in April 2024.
Assetto Corsa Evo has been announced, but so far Kunos has only confirmed it's coming sometime in 2024. This info was first leaked back in 2023, with more clarification coming later.
Kunos Simulazioni’s parent company, Digital Bros, dropped the first hints for when to expect Assetto Corsa Evo to be released. A recent financial report revealed that Assetto Corsa Evo was set for a summer 2024 release.
This was after an original spring 2024 release window was postponed to allow Kunos to complete ACC’s Season 2024 GT World Challenge DLC Pack and add the highly-requested Nurburgring Nordschleife to the game.
Specifically, the summer 2024 release window stated that Assetto Corsa Evo would arrive in the fiscal window ending July. This meant the game would be released either in June or July 2024.
Considering at the time of writing we’re now over halfway through June, Assetto Corsa Evo is unlikely to arrive this month. There has been no official word on when a release date will be revealed, with July also now looking highly improbable.
However, considering Assetto Corsa Evo is slated to launch on PC via Steam’s Early Access platform, there's a chance it could be shadow-dropped with little to no warning.
However, it’s also possible that Kunos Simulazioni, 505 Games, and Digital Bros will officially announce a release date during the 24 Hours of Spa at the end of June. Assetto Corsa Competizione's GT2 DLC was first announced at this event. Kunos has also confirmed that Assetto Corsa Competizione will receive a 2024 GT World Challenge livery pack after the event. We could get more details about the livery pack along with the event and, hopefully, a sneak peek at Assetto Corsa Evo.
This suggests Assetto Corsa Evo is more likely to release towards the end of the year instead of this summer, but this is of course speculation until we get official confirmation.
A recently released screenshot showing off a highly detailed car interior hints that Assetto Corsa Evo will return to the series' roots with a focus on road cars. For now, though, Assetto Corsa Evo is missing on track, with fans desperate for development update as its speculated release window approaches ever faster.
