How pit stop errors will work in F1 22

F1 22 is racing towards the finish line. Those who preordered the Champions Edition can get behind the wheel in less than two weeks on 28 June. As we get closer to the release, Codemasters has released a deep dive video providing more insight on VR, Adapative AI, F1 Life, and more.

First shown in the gameplay trailer released in May, pit stop errors is another new feature in F1 2022 that makes races more unpredictable. In the new deep dive video, Senior Creative Director Lee Mather explains how pit stop errors will work in F1 22.

Pit stop errors

A new Immersive mode enables players to make manual pit stops. With Immersive mode, players will need to manually turn into the pit stop and time it correctly. Turning in at the wrong time can cause pit crew errors. Like in real life, pit stop mistakes can cost the race.

Pit crews can make mistakes if you turn in at the wrong time.

As Mather explains, wheels can get stuck during a tyre change or the pit crew can struggle swapping a wing, adding precious time to the pit stop.

Spending money on perks for your pit crew in My Team or the driver Career mode improves your team’s skills, making them less likely to make mistakes during a pit stop.

Players who want a more casual or cinematic experience can also use the new Broadcast mode. This removes manual turn-ins but you can still watch the full pit stop without skipping it.

Mather also revealed that the larger wheels and tyres introduced in the new 2022 Formula 1 season regulations required Codemasters to redo motion capturing of pit crews.

“We had to recapture all of the pit animations,” he explained. “It has to be natural when they’re carrying something of that size and weight because it gives us the natural motion.”

It's all part of Codemasters' aim to create the most realistic pit stops in any racing game.

Release date
