Forza Horizon 5 has been out for seven months now. In that time, Playground Games’ open-world racer has racked up over 20 million players. But some players have been wondering when the first Forza Horizon 5 expansion will arrive.
Like previous Horizon games, FH5 will get two expansions. We’re expecting the first to be revealed later this week at the Microsoft & Bethesda Games Showcase. Ahead of the show, the first Forza Horizon 5 Expansion has leaked on Steam.
Forza Horizon 5 Hot Wheels Expansion leak
A banner advert on Steam advertised a Forza Horizon 5 Hot Wheels Expansion included in the Premium Add-Ons Bundle but has since been removed.
The contents of the Hot Wheels Expansion are unknown, but it’s probably safe to assume it will include a selection of fantasy Hot Wheels cars and crazy stunt tracks.
This isn’t the first time Playground Games has collaborated with the toy car brand. Forza Horizon 3 also had a Hot Wheels Expansion back in 2017. It included a standalone map with six connected Islands filled with stunt tracks along with a new campaign and ten iconic Hot Wheels cars.
FH3’s Hot Wheels was fun, but it’s hard not to be disappointed that we’re getting another Hot Wheels-themed expansion for FH5 - especially as players have complained about recycled content in FH5.
It’s unusual for the first expansion of a Forza Horizon game to be a franchise tie-in. Usually, the first expansion is set in a new location connected to the existing map. The second expansion is then usually a tie-in.
After the FH3 Hot Wheels Expansion, a Lego Speed Champions expansion was released for Forza Horizon 4 in 2019.
Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase
The leak suggests the Forza Horizon 5 Hot Wheels Expansion will be revealed soon. Presumably, it will be shown at the Microsoft & Bethesda Games Showcase, which starts on Sunday 12 June at 6pm BST/10am PT/1pm ET.
We’re also hoping Forza Motorsport will be revealed in full at the event.
