Virtual reality has the potential to revolutionise racing games, and the upcoming Gran Turismo 7 is among those titles. Playing a racing game with a virtual reality headset strapped to your face is an incredibly immersive experience, giving you an idea of what it’s like to drive some of the world’s fastest cars around iconic race tracks.

Many racing games are compatible with VR headsets, from Gran Turismo Sport to Project CARS 2 and Assetto Competizione. Others like DriveClub VR are also designed specifically for VR.

Sony has announced PlayStation VR2 for the PlayStation 5, ushering a new generation of virtual reality racing games. With its 4K resolution, HDR, and new PS VR2’s technology will be a significant step up from its predecessor. But will Gran Turismo 7 be compatible with VR?

Will Gran Turismo 7 be compatible with VR?

Horizon Call of the Mountain and Firesprite are the only two games confirmed for PS VR2 so far.  Sony hasn’t announced if Gran Turismo 7 will be compatible with VR yet. However, there is a very good chance it will be.

On the PlayStation 4, Gran Turismo Sport launched with a dedicated VR Tour mode. While Gran Turismo Sport delivers one of the most convincing VR driving experiences with the PSVR, due to hardware limitations you can only race against one opponent or race against the clock in single-player time trials.

We're hoping Gran Turismo 7 will deliver a more fully-featured VR experience than Gran Turismo Sport

With the extra power of the PlayStation 5, we’re hoping Gran Turismo 7 will deliver a more fully-featured VR experience with a variety of game modes and full grid races. We would also love to see a Forzavista-style mode that lets you view Gran Turismo 7’s immaculately rendered car models and interiors in VR.

Gran Turismo 7 is also coming to PlayStation 4, but it’s not known if it will be compatible with the original PSVR headset. If it is, there will likely be similar restrictions as Gran Turismo Sport.
