After a short delay, the Steam Deck launched in the UK on 25 February. When it comes to gaming on the go, Valve’s new portable gaming PC is an impressive piece of kit. It's also the perfect handheld for racing games.

Instead of digital triggers like on the Nintendo Switch, the Steam Deck features pressure-sensitive analogue triggers, allowing for precise throttle and braking control in racing simulations. Art of rally was recently verified for Valve’s portable gaming PC, but which other racing games are compatible with Steam Deck?

Forza Horizon 5 now playable on Steam Deck

While Forza Horizon 5 was shown running on Steam Deck before it launched, it wasn't officially compatible. Now, however, Forza Horizon 5 is Playable on Steam Deck. Playing Forza Horizon 5 on the go is now a reality.

A recent benchmark test by Digital Foundry found that Forza Horizon 5 runs at 30fps on high preset settings with 4x MSAA.

This is impressive considering how much cheaper the Steam Deck is than other high-spec handhelds like the GPD Win 3 and Aya Neo.

What is the Steam Deck?

Announced in 2021, the Steam Deck is a powerful handheld gaming PC. With an AMD RDNA 2 GPU, an AMD Zen 2 processor, and 16 GB of on-board RAM, the Steam Deck can play triple-A games on the go without breaking a sweat.

Games running on Steam Deck will look great too thanks to a seven-inch, 60Hz LCD touchscreen displaying a 1280×800 resolution.

Powered by Linux, the Steam Deck lets players access their entire Steam library wherever they go. However, not every game is fully compatible with Steam Deck yet.

Which racing games are compatible with Steam Deck?

Valve is currently assessing the compatibility of every Steam game for the handheld system. Each tested game has one of four Steam Deck compatibility ratings: Verified, Playable, Unsupported, and Unknown.

Verified games are fully compatible with Steam Deck, delivering “a great, smooth experience on Deck” according to Valve.

Thanks to its pressure-sensitive triggers, the Steam Deck is shaping up to be a great way to play racing games on the go

Games listed as “Playable” will also work on Steam Deck but may not be optimised for the handheld. In these games, you may need to adjust graphics settings to improve the performance.

According to Gaming On Linux, there are more than 300 Verified games on Steam Deck at the time of writing. In total, more than 500 games are either Verified or Playable on Steam Deck. More games will likely be verified as we get closer to launch.

Several racing games are Verified on Steam Deck. That means you’ll be able to play these games on Steam Deck with no issues.
