Trackmania comes to consoles

Ubisoft’s free-to-play Trackmania reboot has been out on PC since July 2020. Since then, players have created thousands of custom tracks to challenge the community.

Last year, Ubisoft announced the addictive time attack racer is coming to consoles in early 2023, but no release date was set.

Fast forward to now, and Trackmania has finally landed on consoles. And like the original PC release, you can play it for free.

What is Trackmania?

If you’ve never played Trackmania before, the series is all about beating the clock and setting the fastest time possible on elaborate stunt tracks. Its fast-paced time-trial gameplay is highly addictive.

Royal & Ranked matchmaking game modes let you team up with friends and enter daily competitions.

Trackmania is crossplay and cross-progression with the PC game. This means you can compete with friends across all platforms, whether it’s PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One. It’s also playable on Amazon’s Luna streaming platform.

Creators can also build their own tracks to challenge other players. The track editor is specifically designed for the new console release, with hundreds of new blocks resulting in more than 3,000 pieces.

Trackmania console release date

Trackmania is out now for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Free-to-play on all platforms, it can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Xbox Store.

Trackmania dates back all the way back to 2003, but this is only the second console release following 2016’s underrated Trackmania Turbo on PS4 and Xbox One.

Like the original PC game, the console version features a subscription model giving access to extra content – something that was criticised at launch.

Starter Access is free-to-play, but a Standard Access subscription will set you back £7.99/$9.99 per year. There's also a premium Club Access tier priced at £24.99/ $29.99 per year or £49.99/ $59.99 for three years).

Standard Access gives you full access to track and replay editors as well as the daily Track of the Day and Cup of the Day.

Club Access players can create and join clubs to share creations and organise events. In addition, Club Access players can design skins and compete in the Open Grand League for a chance to qualify for the Trackmania Grand League tournament.

Sticking to the free-to-play Standard Access version lets you access 25 tracks on rotation with new seasons launching every three months.
