As the 2023 Formula 1 season draws to a close, it’s time to look back at some of the impressive achievements clocked up over the year. Despite the real-life sport continuing to see records broken, the virtual world has racked up some impressive milestones. Codemasters have revealed the stats for F1 23, and there are some massive numbers!
Consistent laps
Amazingly, F1 23 players have logged over one billion laps in F1 23. This is over the course of 73 million races, covering a total distance of 5.25 billion kilometres (3.2 billion miles). These are eye-watering numbers, considering the game has only been out for less than six months at the time of writing.
As well as the distance and lap count, F1 23 has also seen over 4.5 million red flags, with the new feature remaining popular for players despite its early issues. 582 million flashbacks have also been deployed, with many players still going into Turn 1 just a little too hot.
In total, 762k drivers have been crowned World Champion, with the majority likely emulating Max Verstappen’s dominant 2023 season. Speaking of Verstappen, he comes out on top for drivers selected.
Verstappen on top
It’s no surprise to see Max Verstappen as the most popular driver in F1 23, as he's also the best-rated F1 23 driver. The Dutchman has had an incredible year, winning all but three races in 2023 and clocking up a mighty 1k laps led. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton comes in second place, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finishing up the podium.
It’s a similar story for the top teams. Much like the 2023 Constructors Championship, Red Bull takes the crown. Then just like in Abu Dhabi, Mercedes pip Ferrari to second place. With both Mercedes and Ferrari failing to take the fight to the Bulls this year, at least we can say they fought bravely against themselves.
2023 Formula 2 champion Theo Porchaire was the most selected My Team second driver, with the young French driver sure to get a seat at the top table sooner rather than later. With the drivers and teams sorted, let’s take a look at the rest of these F1 23 stats.
Best of the rest
Bahrain was the most selected track to race on, which isn’t surprising considering the Sakhir track hosts the curtain-raising race each season. Australia’s Albert Park took second spot, with Austria’s Red Bull Ring in third. With all three tracks popular amongst fans, the only surprise is that Austria only came third.
So far, 68 million Time Trial laps have been completed in F1 23, with 900k attempts at the various Pro Challenges featuring Verstappen, Leclerc and Williams’ Alex Albon. Finally, we have the most popular race suit and helmet. The ‘Conductive’ race suit was worn the most times in F1 23, while the ‘Fuscia’ helmet was donned more than any other.
F1 23’s end-of-year stats are spectacular, but with another six months before the launch of F1 24, there’s still plenty of time to keep the records tumbling.
