What will be the most realistic racing game of 2024? As a new year begins, we're heading into 2024 optimistic about the racing games we're going to be able to experience over the next 12 months.
While arcade racing games such as Need for Speed and Hot Wheels Unleashed are very popular, we're going to be focusing on the titles that will likely be the most realistic. These are racing simulators, a.k.a. "sims".
So, we're going to have a look at what we think will be the most realistic games heading into 2024!
What is the most realistic racing game 2024?
When you want a realistic racing game, you have to look at simulators. Arcade racers are great, but when it comes to games that are realistic, sims are the way to go.
While games such as iRacing and rFactor 2 are very realistic and will no doubt receive large updates to expand their content, they won't qualify for this list, as they have been out for a number of years now.
2023 had some great racing sims released, such as Ride 5, Forza Motorsport and MotoGP 23, but what can we expect to top the subgenre this year?
MotoGP 24
We're so hyped for MotoGP 24, as this is arguably the best motorcycle racing game around. Milestone has consistently delivered with the official MotoGP game and there's no reason to think that will change for MotoGP 24.
MotoGP 24 will have all of the circuits, riders, teams of the 2024 season as well as support series and classic "historical" tracks.
MotoGP 24 could also be the first MotoGP game to miss the old-gen hardware. We expect it to release on PS5, Xbox Series X | S and PC, but will likely miss the PS4 and Xbox One.
This means that Milestone will be able to push the boundaries of the graphics and physics models even more to make an even more realistic racing simulator than we've been used to.
We don't have a release date for MotoGP 24, but we're expecting it to be released 12 months on from MotoGP 23 in June. This should be confirmed in a reveal trailer sometime in March.
Le Mans Ultimate
The World Endurance Championship is one of the most prestigious motorsport series in the world.
Le Mans Ultimate will be the official game of the 2023 WEC series and include all of the cars, drivers, teams and circuits of the real-life season.
The gameplay we've seen so far looks promising and we can't wait to give this a go, especially seeing as this is the first WEC game in over 20 years!
This game was originally listed for a release at the end of 2023, but delays have put it back to 20th February 2024. This is for the PC release, but if the game is popular enough, it could make the jump to PlayStation and Xbox as soon as next year.
Assetto Corsa 2
Assetto Corsa is one of the newer racing sims on the market, but it has established itself as one of the best.
Both Assetto Corsa and AC Competizione have been loved by both players and critics, so there's no reason think that will be any different for Assetto Corsa 2.
We've known that AC2 has been on the way for a long time, but we finally have a release window for the title and we know it's coming to consoles as well as PC.
We don't have a specific date yet, but we know AC2 should release in the summer of this year. The tracks and cars are yet to be confirmed, but we believe that we could see the biggest roster yet.
We can't forget about the physics model either, which will be one of the best in racing gaming even if it's only a moderate improvement over ACC.
GTR Revival
One of the most surprising announcements a couple of years ago was the revival of the GTR series. Slightly Mad Studios, the developers that used to make the Project CARS series will be behind the new game.
While Project CARS has been cancelled by EA, some good has come out of this, as it's allowed Slightly Mad to make what will hopefully be a fairly clever move with GTR Revival.
The early signs from GTR Revival look positive and the game is currently scheduled for a Q4 2024 release. However, Ian Bell's Twitter has stated this game will be delayed until 2025, but, for now at least, it is meant to launch at the end of this year.
We don't know many details about the game yet, but GTR2 was based around the 2005 FIA GT Championship season, a series that no longer exists. The screenshot we have of the game shows the cockpit of an Audi, so this could be the official DTM (German Touring Cars) game for 2024.
