How to Use Flashbacks in F1 24

Even the best racing drivers sometimes make mistakes. Whether it's losing the rear end when accelerating or locking up the brakes at a vital moment, these errors can cost valuable time in a race.

Luckily, F1 24's Flashbacks allows players to rewind before a mistake, potentially saving the race. But how do you use Flashbacks in F1 24?

How to enable Flashbacks in F1 24

Before hitting the track, you need to make sure Flashbacks are enabled in the settings. Flashback settings can be found under the Simulation tab in the game's menu. Flashbacks can be found in the Recovery Mode section.

Here you can also select how many Flashbacks you get per race. By default, this is set to unlimited but can be changed to low, medium, or high. The amount of flashbacks varies according to the type and length of the race session.

How to use Flashbacks

Chances are you will make a mistake during a race. If this mistake takes you out of the action, you'll need to use a Flashback to get back on track. There are two ways to use Flashbacks in F1 24:

  • Pressing the Flashback button on your controller/wheel
  • Use the Instant Replay feature in the pause menu

The Flashback button is X on an Xbox controller and Square on PlayStation. It will vary on racing wheels, so either check the controller settings to see which button is mapped to Flashback before starting out or use the pause menu instead.

Pause the game, then select Instant Replay to load up the last 10 seconds of gameplay. Find the point you want to resume from and press the button shown onscreen.

Be careful, however, as using flashback will throw you back into the action at whatever speed you were racing at that moment. You will also have to match your analog stick or wheel with the car's angle to avoid throwing yourself off the track when the game continues.

If you Flashback to the wrong moment, you can only go back to that same moment from there on. Therefore, it's best to use Flashbacks when on a straight piece of track, or in a slow-speed section if required.

It's also a good idea to remember how many Flashbacks you have remaining. This obviously isn't an issue if they are set to unlimited. But if you have a limit set, make sure you don’t run out when it matters most.

The best way to save Flashbacks is to only use them on crashes. Missing your braking point once won't ruin your race, so keep your Flashback for when you only have three wheels!
