CarX Street raced onto mobiles in 2022, but fans are eagerly waiting for news on the long-delayed PC version. After months of radio silence, CarX Technologies has shared an update on when PC players can get their hands on CarX Street.
CarX Street coming to Steam Early Access this year
In an update on X, developer CarX Technologies announced that CarX Street is set to hit PC via Steam Early Access this year, but no specific date was given. The Russian developer emphasised it will continue “improving our game for some time before the official release happens” during the early access period.
Accompanying the announcement is a new teaser trailer showing a news report on illegal street races in Sunset City, but no gameplay is shown.
More closed beta tests planned
Last year’s first closed beta test allowed the developer to compile a list of bugs and improvements that need to be fixed for the final game. Before the early access release, there will be another closed beta.
“According to our rough estimates, we'll need 2-3 months to finish all the necessary work and after that we'll organize another round of closed beta test which will be a sort of final test before Early Access release,” the developer said.
“Once again, we'd like to point out that game development is a "live" process and some unforeseen circumstances are possible to happen and affect development process, so we are not ready yet to announce any specific date for Early Access or final release.”
Set in the fictional Sunset City, CarX Street is shaping up to be a potential Need for Speed rival, with extensive tuning options, drift racing, and a varied open world to explore. None of the cars are licensed, but they are heavily inspired by legendary tuner cars. CarX Street sees players join street racing clubs and rise the ranks to conquer Sunset City.
Will CarX Street be delayed again?
While the update on the PC version is welcome, it remains to be seen if CarX Technologies can stick to its release schedule considering the PC version has suffered multiple delays.
An Early Access release for PC was originally planned for November 2021 but was delayed several times. It’s since been superseded by the free-to-play mobile release on iOS and Android.
Clearly, the Steam Early Access launch is at least several months away. It’s been three years since the initial announcement, so we’re hoping CarX Street will finally hit PC in 2024.
No updates on the planned console versions were given, but CarX Technologies says it will share more news and updates on the development of the PC version soon.
