Rocket League is one of the most popular games in the world, but is there a new racing spin-off game in the works? There have been persistent rumours over the last few months, but how likely is this?

Rocket League has been out for a long time now, so it could be time for the developers to produce a new release to add to the experience.

So, here's everything we know about the potential Rocket League Racing game!

Latest news - Rocket Racing officially revealed!

Fortnite's The Big Bang event revealed the launch date for Rocket Racing. Along with a performance by Eminem, the virtual concert announced that Rocket Racing will launch on Fortnite on 8 December 2023.

And so, right on time Fortnite Rocket Racing was officially launched on Friday with the below trailer showing off the highlights of the new game:

Rocket Racing is exclusively available as part of Fortnite's Season 5 update. This disproves the rumour that the game could be an expansion to developer Psyonix's Rocket League.

With all three games published by Epic Games, there's still the potential for crossovers in the future.

Rocket Racing Fortnite Season 5

For those who don't know what Rocket League is, it's a game centred around a combination of football and driving. It's a simple yet unique concept and its arcade presentation makes the gameplay incredibly addictive.

Prolific gaming "leaker" Jacob Wolff obtained an email that hinted at Rocket League Racing, amongst other projects. This was proven to be legit because Rocket Racing is now out!

The three projects mentioned in the email and subsequent Tweets are Fortnite Lego, Fortnite Chapter 5, UEFN & a Harmonix Festival as well as Rocket League Racing.

Fortnite Lego has since launched, with several sets now being available online. Lego characters will also be available in-game in early 2024.

As was rumoured as well, players are able to port owned cars from Rocket League into Fortnite and customise them in a new garage:

This means Rocket Racing isn't a seasonal update like we've seen with the recent Halloween theme or an expansion for Rocket League. This would have allowed Rocket League's player base to translate to Rocket League Racing seamlessly. Instead, Rocket Racing will be exclusive to Fortnite.

Gameplay

Rocket Racing's gameplay is simple yet effective. You'll be one of 12 total racers on-track where dodging obstacles, timing your boosts, and using flips, flying, and drifts are all weapons in your arsenal to come out on top.

There are a wide array of tracks and cars available with Rocket League classics such as Jager and Cyclone and an introduction to Diesel. There are 26 tracks in total, which is a huge amount for a newly launched game. As you rank up, you'll unlock rewards like the Jackie skin.

More updates are planned throughout 2024 as well, so watch this space! In the meantime, you can check out our Rocket Racing tips and tricks to help you win consistantly.

Release date & platforms

The Rocket League racing spin-off was first rumoured back in March 2023. These rumours were confirmed when Rocket Racing was announced at The Big Bang event on 2 December.

As for the release date, Rocket Racing was launched alongside Fortnite Season 5 on 8 December. To play Rocket Racing, you'll need to link your Rocket League and Fortnite accounts. You can also transfer cars and decals from Rocket League to Rocket Racing for a seamless experience.

Fortnite is available on various platforms, including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android. Rocket League Racing will mark the series' current-gen debut, as Rocket League has never had a native PS5 or Xbox Series X|S release.

If it's popular in Fortnite, Rocket Racing will be added to the core game later. For now, though, Fortnite will be the only way to play Rocket League Racing.
