Ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix opening the 2023 season, EA Sports dropped a surprise F1 23 teaser this week. This year’s game will be a “fresh start” for the series, suggesting some radical changes could be in store for this year’s F1 game.
However, Microsoft has seemingly confirmed F1 23 will release on last-gen formats.
F1 23 Xbox One release confirmed?
Codemasters hasn’t confirmed formats for F1 23 yet. However, the official Xbox game page lists F1 23 for Xbox One as well as Xbox Series X|S.
This is surprising as EA’s Need for Speed Unbound skipped last-gen formats and was a PS5 and Xbox Series X|S exclusive.
With Microsoft seemingly confirming F1 23 won’t abandon Xbox One, we can also expect this year’s F1 title to arrive on PS4.
It’s worth noting that Codemasters hasn’t officially announced F1 23 for Xbox One yet, so it could be a placeholder.
According to the game listing, F1 23 is “optimised for Xbox Series X|S.” This likely means it will run at 4K and 60fps on Xbox Series X.
Considering the original hardware is ten years old, F1 23 will likely be capped at 1080p and 30fps on Xbox One, but it may run at 4K on Xbox One X.
F1 23 sticking to last-gen formats raises some concerns. If this holds the game back on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, F1 23 might not be the fresh start for the series we were hoping for.
F1 23 release date
We still don’t know the F1 23 release date. But we shouldn’t have to wait long to find out now that EA has teased the reveal. F1 22 was announced last April, but this week’s teaser could suggest an earlier announcement for F1 23.
As for the release date, we expect F1 23 to arrive in late June or early July. Again though, the teaser may suggest an earlier release date.
