Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.49 Brings Huge Handling Changes and More

After Polyphony skipped an update last month, tomorrow marks the launch of Gran Turismo 7’s next update, and it’s a significant one. While we already know that update 1.49 is bringing new cars and a returning classic track, more details on what to expect in tomorrow’s update have been unveiled.

Improved physics

Aside from the new content, one of the headline changes coming in update 1.49 is an improved physics model. As detailed in a blog post, GT7’s physics will get a “major update,” with improvements to the suspension and tyre models bringing “more natural weight shifting during cornering.”

Additionally, tyre response, heating, and wear have been improved, resulting in “more dynamic car movement” and a “further polished driving feel.”

6 new cars

No GT7 update is complete without new cars to drive, and July’s update doesn’t disappoint. While most updates usually contain three cars, this month’s bumper update adds six new cars to the roster.

These include the second-generation 1997 BMW M3, 2007 Ferrari 430 Scuderia, 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4, 2016 RUF RGT 4.2, 1998 Subaru Impreza Rally Car famously driven by Colin McRae, and the fictional Genesis X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo Concept.

The BMW M3 will only be available in the Used Cars dealership, while the Ferrari 430 Scuderia and Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 can be purchased in the Used Cars and Brand Central dealers.

The Genesis X Gran Racer and RUF RGT 4.2 will only be sold in Brand Central, while the Subaru Impreza Rally Car will be available exclusively in the Legends Car Dealership for a limited time. Overall, it’s an eclectic mix of new and returning cars from the series.

Eiger Nordwand returns

Alongside the new cars, update 1.49 marks the return of the Eiger Nordwand mountain course, last seen in Gran Turismo 6 over ten years ago. First introduced in the 2006 Gran Turismo HD Concept demo for PS3, the Swiss circuit features a series of tight hairpins, narrow sections, and elevation changes, making it ideal for drifting.

Unlike other returning tracks like Grand Valley, Eiger Nordwand doesn’t appear to have any major revisions in GT7.

In addition, update 1.49 also brings a new Menu Book (Extra Menu No. 40: McLaren), World Circuits events, a new Pokal wheel brand in the GT Auto Shop, an Eiger Scapes location, and Sophy AI for the Nurburgring 24h and Autodrome Lago Maggiore (Full Course) circuits.

More details will be available in the patch notes when update 1.49 goes live on July 24 at 11:00 pm PST / July 25 at 7:00 am BST.
