The next rival to Mario Kart has arrived, but which Disney Speedstorm characters can you go racing with right now? The new title has massive potential given the huge library of iconic characters developers Gameloft have to work with.
Disney characters have fans of all ages around the globe, so we can expect to see everyone from Darth Vader to Iron Man and Elsa in this game eventually, but as with all modern games we might have to wait for future seasons to add them.
So who can you expect to go racing with if you dive into Disney Speedstorm? Let's take a look!
Latest news - Toy Story characters coming in Season 2
Toy Story fans rejoice: Season 2 is bringing four fan-favourite characters from the popular Pixar animated series to Disney Speedstorm.
click to enlargeStarting on 13 June, Season 2 - To Infinity and Beyond will add Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Bo Peep, and Jessie to the character roster along with Andy's Room as a new racing environment.
As well as four Toy STory characters, a midseason update will bring Steamboat Mickey & Steamboat Pete alongside two new game modes: Follow the Leader and Colour Match.
Season roadmap
As well as revealing Season 2, Gameloft has provided a roadmap previewing what’s coming in future Seasons.
Disney Speedstorm seasons rotate every two months, with Season 3 starting in August. The exact release date is still to be announced, but the roadmap confirms Season 3 will add five new racers, with two mystery racers also joining the race mid-season.
After that, Season 4 will launch in October, but the contents of this season are yet to be announced.
First character confirmed for Season 2
Disney Speeedstorm Season 1 has only just started, but Gameloft has already confirmed Season 2 will start this summer.

As it's based on Mickey's debut in the 1928 animation film Steamboat Willie, the character is black and white, which is a nice touch. We're also expecting more characters to be announced for Season 1.
Season 1 adds new character
The game is now in early access and has started with seasonal content already. Season 1 has seen a new, and unexpected, character arrive in the game.
Figment the dragon is a character from Walt Disney World, not a Disney film or TV franchise. It's an odd choice for a first addition to the game, but it will be a welcome one to those lucky enough to have visited the Magic Kingdom.

Disney Speedstorm Characters
Since the official reveal trailer of Disney Speedstorm went live last year, we have had confirmation of a lot of characters in the game that you can enjoy in Disney Speedstorm split-screen.
Some characters are also voiced by the original voice actors to capture their personalities.

Character wishlist
We obviously won't see all of the enormous list of Disney-Pixar characters within the game as there are so many, but there are some particular ones we'd love to see.
The most obvious series to pick is Pixar's Cars, but how that would work with Lightning McQueen and co. already being cars isn't clear. Other Pixar series we'd like to see get an inclusion include Toy Story, The Incredibles, and Inside Out.
click to enlargeDisney owns a lot of other IPs besides their own and Pixar's characters. Star Wars, Marvel, and Fox all fall under Disney's umbrella of subsidiaries.
So, in theory, we could have Captain America racing against Darth Vader later this year. Is this likely to happen though? Well, it's hard to say, but given these other series didn't get a mention in the reveal, it's unlikely.
However, it is very possible that expansions or updates could bring these series to Speedstorm post-launch. Those who wish to pre-order early access will also get characters included with their purchase. Depending on whether you go for the Standard, Deluxe or Ultimate Founder's packs, you'll get 2, 3 or 5 Racers Unlocked, respectively.
