The IndyCar Grand Prix of Portland has been on the calendar for almost 40 years now. This road course has changed over the years, but has kept most of the characteristics it had when it made its debut in the 1980s.

We're into the business end of the season now, as this is the penultimate round on the calendar in 2023. Alex Palou is the heavy favourite for the championship, but Scott Dixon has won the last two rounds of the championship.

Scott McLaughlin won the GP of Portland 12 months ago and will also be in with a shot of victory this weekend. Previous winners around this track also include Palou and Will Power, both with a win each since this event returned in 2017.

Historically speaking, Mario Andretti, Michael Andretti, Emerson Fittipaldi, Al Unser Jr., Sebastian Bourdais, Alex Zanardi and Gil de Ferran are all multiple winners in Portland.

The race, for example, starts at 5:00 am on Monday morning on the East Coast. Viewers on the West Coast arguably have it even worse, as that's a 3:00 am start.
