It’s the moment Test Drive fans have been waiting for. After years of delays, months of speculation, and a week-long drip feed of teasers, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown finally has a confirmed release date.

Since the last off-road-focused trailer in February, Nacon has remained silent while KT Racing continues polishing the long-delayed game for the final release. This sparked fears that the open-world racer will be delayed again, possibly until 2025. With GTA 6 set to ruin every game developer's release schedule next year and Forza Horizon 6 rumored for next year, this would not be ideal.

Thankfully, the wait is nearly over: Test Drive fans will be hitting the streets of Hong Kong island in just a few months.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown set for September 2024 release

A new trailer shown during Bigben Week confirms that Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will be released on 12 September 2024, with an early access period starting from 5 September for those who preorder. Preorders are now open for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

In the new trailer, several new exotic cars are shown screeching around TDUSC's 1:1 recreation of Hong Kong Island. These include the Bugatti Chiron, Lamborghini Centenario, Shelby Mustang GT500, Dodge Challenger SRT, Nissan 370Z, Koenigsegg Regera, Lancia Stratos, Aston Martin Vantage, and BMW M4 Competition.

Like previous TDU games, each car is fully customizable with factory-correct options replicating the dealership experience. Unlike Forza Horizon 5, the more desirable cars won’t be easy to obtain, creating a unique sense of car ownership the series is known for.

The diversity of the map is also showcased, from crowded city streets to docks and dusty trails. We also get a look at TDUSC’s lifestyle elements including a lavish salon and nightclub. As they compete in the titular Solar Crown competition as one of two rival clans known as the Streets and Sharps, players can meet up at these locations and socialize with other clan members.

The release date confirmation will be a huge relief for fans who have been anxiously waiting to play the first TDU game in 13 years. Originally announced in 2020, the open-world racer has suffered countless delays. If KT Racing can deliver a polished experience with no server issues at launch, the long wait should be worth it.

Alongside the new TDUSC trailer, Nacon also unveiled a surprise new direct-drive wheel as part of its new department dedicated to racing software and hardware, Revosim. Presumably, the wheel will be compatible with Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown.
