Kazunori Teases Three Cars for Next Gran Turismo 7 Update

After weeks of silence, Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed that Gran Turismo 7’s first update of 2024 is coming this week. In his usual teaser post on X, the Gran Turismo creator confirmed that GT7’s January update, likely to be update 1.42, will bring three new cars.

Three cars teased for Gran Turismo 7 update 1.42

In his traditional car silhouette teaser on X, Yamauchi confirmed that three cars are coming to GT7 this week. That’s less than November’s substantial Spec II update, which added five cars.

Their identities haven’t been confirmed yet, but they’re easy to work out. On the bottom left is the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo. Unveiled at the World Finals last December, the sleek concept boasts an electrified V6 engine producing 1,071 hp.

The concept is also being offered as one of three prize cars for players who entered the Viewers Gift Campaign. This suggests players who entered the Viewers Gift Campaign will get the Genesis Vision GT for free, while other players will need to buy it.

This isn’t the only Vision GT concept this week’s update will bring. Joining the Genesis is the Bulgari Vision GT. Also unveiled at the World Finals, it marks the Italian fashion brand’s first foray into car design.

Its design is striking, sporting an open cockpit, aggressive wheels, and a wedge shape. As part of its partnership with Polyphony, Bulgari also created the now sold-out Bulgari Aluminium x Gran Turismo Special Edition watch. Originally, the Bulgari Vision GT was available exclusively to buyers of the watch.

Both variants of the watch cost an eye-watering £4,490, making the concept the most expensive Gran Turismo car ever. Now, it looks like the concept will be available to all GT7 players in the next update.

We already knew the two Vision GTs were coming to GT7, but the third and final car teased was less predictable. At the top appears to be a Suzuki Jimny off-roader judging from its boxy silhouette. It’s an unexpected update, but Gran Turismo’s car rosters are traditionally full of quirky Japanese cars you don’t see in many driving games.

When does Gran Turismo 7 update 1.42 come out?

No other details about the update were confirmed, but we can probably expect it to add more GT Café Menu Books and World Circuit races. We’ll have to wait for the patch notes to arrive to find out any gameplay changes and bug fixes.

As for the release date, Yamauchi confirmed that GT7’s next update will arrive this week but didn’t specify a date. However, given that GT7 updates are usually released on the last Thursday of the month, we’re expecting update 1.42 to arrive on Thursday, January 25.
