The Crew Motorfest is coming later this year, with the latest instalment in The Crew franchise letting us explore beautiful Hawaii in hundreds of vehicles including boats and planes. But will The Crew Motorfest be on PS4?
Will The Crew Motorfest be on PS4?
With Need for Speed Unbound and Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown skipping PS4, racing game developers have started to leave the last-generation consoles in the dust. Ubisoft isn't following this trend though, because The Crew Motorfest is coming to PS4.
This makes sense from a business perspective. With over 117 million units sold worldwide, the PS4 is still one of the most popular consoles on the market.
However, the original PS4 is ten years old, and the hardware is showing its age. This means The Crew Motorfest will run at a lower resolution and frame rate than its PS5 counterpart.
On the standard PS4, we expect The Crew Motorfest to be capped at 1080p and 30fps. The more powerful PS4 Pro may offer a checkboard 4K resolution at 30fps or a performance mode with 1080p and 30fps.
With other developers leaving the last-gen consoles behind, there’s concern that releasing The Crew Motorfest on PS4 will limit developer resources for the PS5 game, scuppering its potential.
However, it’s possible the PS4 version is being handled by a support studio like Ubisoft Reflections, with Ivory Tower leading PS5 development.
Launching on last-gen systems also means The Crew Motorfest may have cross-play support enabling PS4 players to race and explore Hawaii with PS5 players.
One advantage the PS4 version will have is a lower retail price. While the standard PS5 version will probably retail for £49.99-£59.99, we expect the PS4 game to sell for around £39.99 when pre-orders go live.
Ubisoft is yet to confirm a release date, but The Crew Motorfest is slated to arrive later in 2023.
