Latest news - Vol.4 hands-on

Need for Speed Unbound's Vol. 4 update celebrates the 75th anniversary of Porsche.

Two new Porsches are added, with the Legendary Custom Porsche 911 Carrera S (1997) unlocked once players reach rank 50 in the Speed Pass. Completing the Porsche playlist three times unlocks the Porsche Taycan Turbo S (2022) electric car.

As well as the Porsche content, Vol 4. also adds a new Gauntlet playlist, brand new Linkup locations, a range of new events and challenges to compete in, and 75 new customisation options for both your avatar and cars.

Was Vol. 4 worth the wait or is it another underwhelming update? Find out in our hands-on preview.

Choices matter

Without giving anything away, NFS Unbound starts with a choice of three cars. You can take the 1969 Dodge Chargers, the 1988 Lamborghini Countach 25th, or 1998 Nissan Silvia K's.

However, in a cruel twist of fate you lose this car early on and it becomes the goal to win it back!

After that prologue you get some cash together to buy a much slower car and build yourself back up to win back that dream ride you picked at the start.

You're going to be stuck with it for a long time as you work your way up, so choosing the right starter car is crucial.

Then it's time to go out into Lakeshore City and explore. There are 260 collectibles to find in Unbound's open world, and this collectible map will help you find them!

The fastest cars aren't found until late in the campaign, and some are multiplayer specials like the classic BMW M3 GTR.

You will need to keep cars in every class though, so don't go tuning every B car into an S+ monster!

Taking over

Obviously there are races in Need for Speed Unbound along with drift challenges, but there is something else too. Takeovers.

These challenges get a huge introduction from A$AP Rocky and ask you to rack up points across a short three-lap obstacle course.

If you just drive around the track you won't get close to the top score.

Instead, you need to use these Takeover tips to make sure you are maximising results in these events and earning as much money as you can.
