Forza Horizon 5 is incredibly popular, featuring a diverse open-world set in Mexico, hundreds of cars, and accessible arcade-style driving. But Forza started as a realistic racing game as Microsoft’s answer to Gran Turismo on the Xbox.

The first Forza Motorsport game launched back in 2005 on the original Xbox and spawned six sequels, with the last game in the series, Forza Motorsport 7, launching in 2017 on Xbox One. That means it's been five years since the last Forza Motorsport game.

Forza Motorsport is being hailed as a "reimagining of the series."

Thanks to the horsepower of Xbox Series X, Forza Motorsport will run at 4K and 60fps. On Xbox Series S, Forza Motorsport will run at 1080p/60fps.

Ray-tracing technology will also make the lighting and shadows more realistic, with car surfaces reflecting off each other. Unlike GT7, every track will have dynamic time of day effects and real-time ray-tracing.

In contrast to Forza Horizon 5’s arcade-style handling, Forza Motorsport will also boast a brand new tyre model, bringing new levels of driving realism.

Will Forza Motorsport release on Xbox One?

As for other platforms, Forza Motorsport has been announced for PC. Microsoft hasn’t confirmed if it will also release on Xbox One but will "share more details on platform availability at a later date" according to an online FAQ.

Leaked screenshots were reportedly sourced from an early alpha build running on Xbox One implied Forza Motorsport will be a cross-gen release.

If it releases on Xbox One, we expect Forza Motorsport will be capped at 1080p and 30fps. Ray-tracing will likely be removed too as the technology will be too intensive on the less powerful Xbox One hardware.

However, the official game listing on the official Xbox website only lists Xbox Series X|S and Windows 10/11 as available platforms, with no mention of Xbox One.
